Meet Ayepo's Founder - Ahmad Shah

Vision and Mission

AYEPO's Founder
Ahmad Shad KARIMI

Living through decades of political turmoil, economic insecurity, and deep-seated conflict, Ahmad Shah Karimi envisioned a new future in founding Afghanistan Youth Empowerment and Peace-building Organization (AYEPO). Despite daily struggles and turbulent politics in Afghanistan, Ahmad’s childhood home provided the education, safety, and love that enabled him and his brothers to imagine a different reality.

Ahmad found inspiration from his mother, a dedicated, compassionate single mother who raised the family through values of equality, inclusion, compassion, and social responsibility. She provided education and skills for building deep relationships, and encouraged Ahmad and his brothers to be the change they wished to see in the world. This powerful home served as a model of hope for what is possible, a reality that was not yet mirrored in Afghanistan society.

Stepping into adulthood, Ahmad worked for organizations across the social sector, meeting and working with youth committed to diversity, respect, learning, and compassionate communication. He often was reminded of his childhood home that instilled such values in him, and felt encouraged by the potential today’s youth have to actualize the peaceful, nourishing reality he experienced in his childhood home across Afghanistan.

Catalyzed by this vision, AYEPO emerged in January 2019 as a space and platform for youth to experience and lead peace and community. AYEPO facilitates youth-led social change through peace education, women’s empowerment, and community building efforts. The organization cultivates a powerful sense of home for young peace builders that serves as a foundation and inspiration for community change.
